The Kom Op Tegen Kankerloop of Atletiekclub Break is the fixed first-of-May appointment in Ekeren. Everything revolves around a 2.5-kilometre lap through the centre: two laps for the 5 kilometres, four for the 10. For children under thirteen there is a separate run in the Hagelkruispark, and it is not only free but requires no registration at all — you simply go to the start. The finish and all the practical arrangements are at Ekeren Sport! in that same park. The proceeds go to Kom op tegen Kanker, and the make-up of the field shows that for many runners this is the reason they come.
