The Grote Stratenloop opens the Zwevezele fair on a Friday evening, centred on the Marktplein. The two main distances are one and two laps of the same course: 4.93 kilometres as a recreational run and 9.86 as a timed one. The latter counts towards the West Running Criterium, a series of nine races running from April to the Christmas race in Waregem in December — and entering that classification costs nothing. Earlier in the evening the children run their heats in the Kasteelpark, from two hundred metres to 1.2 kilometres. The prize giving later in the evening coincides with the fair, so the race runs seamlessly into the village festival.
