The Bruges Marathon starts on 't Zand, in the shadow of the concert hall, and finishes on the Grote Markt between the historic façades. The course runs through the Bruges old town, on to Damme and back along the Damse Vaart — flat and fast, with the canal bank as a long straight line through the middle. Besides the marathon and the half there is an 8-kilometre Family Walk, so walkers get the same old town. The marathon carries a six-hour limit; on the half you must hold seven minutes per kilometre or faster because of the traffic arrangements.
