The GR Provincie Trail Luik follows a philosophy all of its own: there is no waymarked course in the usual sense, but participants follow the markings of a GR long-distance walking path. A week beforehand they receive a GPX file as an aid, and anyone without a suitable watch can rent one. The field is capped at forty runners, which puts the emphasis on navigation and experience rather than on competition. Two distances are on offer, a half marathon and a marathon, with aid stations roughly every ten kilometres. Those stations are cup-free, so participants bring their own drinking vessel. The race forms part of a series across the Belgian provinces.
