The Gertrudisloop starts and finishes on the market square of Geertruidenberg and revolves around a 2.5-kilometre lap through and around the fortified town: the five kilometres covers it twice, the ten kilometres four times. The course is paved and compact, which makes it fast and keeps the crowd in one place. Children run a loop of their own past the fort — 850 metres up to age eight, that same loop twice up to thirteen. The prize ceremony and the after-party are at Fort Sint Gertrudis. The race was started by a physiotherapist, a personal trainer and a professional runner from the area, which shows in the set-up: sporting and tight, without frills.
