Dwars Door Kruisem sets off at the sports hall of Huise and from there takes to the rural roads of the Flemish Ardennes. There are two distances, 10.5 kilometres and the half marathon, and both start in the afternoon. The organisers describe the course themselves as single-track: narrow roads between the fields rather than broad approach roads, past the villages that together make up the merged municipality of Kruisem. The rolling landscape determines more of the effort here than the pace on paper would suggest. The race belongs to Vlaamse Ardennen Loopt, a series in which local clubs and municipal sports services pool their events.
