Dwars door Duizend

About the race

Dwars Door Duizend spreads a hundred kilometres over three days and three stages, through the countryside of Gelderland and Utrecht: forest paths, hilly terrain, floodplains and heath, with over a thousand metres of climbing in total. What sets it apart from an ordinary ultra is the logistics around it — you sleep at campsites along the way, your luggage is transported, and in the evening everyone eats together. That makes it more a multi-day journey with a race number than a competition: it is about finishing, not winning. The route is agreed afresh each year with land managers and municipalities, so it is settled only late. The event is organised by the Trail & Running Club Utrechtse Heuvelrug.
