The Trail de Gendron sets off at the railway station of Gendron, a hamlet of Houyet in the province of Namur, and heads into the valley of the Lesse — a stretch of wild growth and limestone cliffs. There are four distances, each with its own name: Le Rapide over 7 kilometres with 159 metres of climbing, Une Chimay Méritée over 14 with 370, the Semi-Marathon Trail over 21 with 650 and L'After Méritée over 28 with a thousand. Those thousand metres make the longest distance a serious one by Belgian standards. The starts are spread across the morning, from quarter to ten for the longest to eleven for the shortest, so that everyone comes in at about the same time.
