The Backyard Koning van de Veluwe sets off at the Cialfo athletics club on the Wachtelenbergweg in Epe and follows the strict backyard format: every full hour a new lap of 6.7 kilometres begins. Anyone who does not finish the lap within that hour is out, and it goes on until one runner remains — with a limit of 24 hours. What decides the result is therefore not your speed but your ability to get up and set off again, over and over. The runners leave on Friday evening, with Saturday morning as a second point of entry. Walkers and nordic walkers keep the same rhythm on the half lap of 3.4 kilometres. The woods around Epe supply the lap you see again each time.
