Antwerp Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra in the municipal park of Schelle, not in Borgerhout. The concept is simple and unforgiving: every hour everyone starts the same 6.706 km loop again, and anyone who finishes late or misses the start corral is out. The loop is flat but varied, mixing paved and unpaved sections, and it repeats day and night until only one runner remains. The race is therefore less about raw speed than about rhythm, recovery, fuelling and mental endurance. As a Silver Ticket race, ABYU also has a clear place in the international backyard scene, while the experience remains compact and local in Schelle.
