The Abdijrun runs across the Herkenrode abbey site near Hasselt, starting at the Abdissenwoning. The course uses what the site has to offer: the nature reserve along the ponds, the old English park, the fields in between and the historic abbey buildings themselves. It is therefore not a lap of asphalt but not a real trail either — more a walk at race pace through a protected landscape. The afternoon opens with two kids runs, over 500 metres for five to eight year olds and 1000 metres for nine to twelve, followed by the 5 and the 10 kilometres. Those two count towards the Helpshop Loop Criterium, the Limburg regularity competition.
