65 van Walcheren

About the race

The 65 van Walcheren is an ultra that shows off the whole island from a start in Vlissingen, with a shorter 32.5-kilometre option for anyone wanting half the job. Both distances set off in the morning from the Willem Ruysstraat. The course is fully waymarked and mixes tarmac with a good deal of unpaved ground: dune paths, cycle and footpaths and long stretches along the beach. Those beach sections are what make the race hard, since whether the sand is firm or soft depends entirely on the tide. Several staffed aid points along the way offer water, sports drink, cola and something to eat. The route passes the seafronts of Vlissingen and Domburg and follows the coastline that gives the island its character.
