11strandentocht

About the race

The 11strandentocht is a beach trek along the Dutch coast that always finishes in the centre of Zandvoort. There are four distances — 50, 25, 12.5 and 5 kilometres — and each one has its own start location further along the coast. The route itself is disarmingly simple: keep going straight with the sea on your left, entirely on unpaved beach, with sand underfoot and wind in your face. That makes it an event about persistence rather than racing pace; walkers, joggers, runners and groups all mix together. The shortest distance is called the Heldenroute and is meant for anyone taking part at their own pace. By entering, participants support the Dutch Heart Foundation.
