The Triathlon Heerenveen is the triathlon of AV Heerenveen, swum, ridden and run in and around the Frisian town. Two distances are on offer, each of which can be tackled individually or as a team. The one-eighth triathlon combines 500 metres of swimming with 18 kilometres of cycling and 5 kilometres of running; the Olympic distance covers 1,500 metres of swimming, 42 kilometres of cycling and 10 kilometres of running. The courses use the Skoatterwâld district, the woods of Oranjewoud and the Belvédère museum park, which gives the whole event a markedly green character for a race so close to town. The day before the main event there is a separate youth triathlon on the same terrain.
