The Trail du Borinage starts on the Rue d'Elouges in Dour, in the old mining region west of Mons. That past shapes the landscape: the terrils, the spoil heaps of the former coal mines, are the only real high ground in an otherwise flat region, and a trail here seeks them out. There are three distances of 8, 16 and 32 kilometres, with the climbing concentrated in the longest. The organisation is small in scale, with limited fields and entry in advance. For anyone wanting to trail run in Hainaut without driving to the Ardennes, this is the nearest option with real elevation.
