The Skoatterwâld Run is organised by the neighbourhood council of Skoatterwâld, a district on the east side of Heerenveen, with start and finish on the grass field beside MFA De Spil. There are two distances for adults, 5 and 10 kilometres, with the ten consisting of two laps of the same course. Alongside them the children run: 800 metres for the youngest and 1800 metres for the older ones. The morning opens with their warm-up, after which the adults set off at eleven. The course is gently undulating and alternates paved with unpaved paths along the edge of the district. The entry fee is deliberately kept low and race numbers can be collected the evening before.
