The Semi-Marathon de Nivelles is the largest running event in Walloon Brabant, starting and finishing on the Grand Place of Nivelles, which is closed off entirely for the participants. The programme reaches beyond the half marathon over 21.097 kilometres: a 12-kilometre race sets off at the same time, a 5-kilometre race starts earlier in the morning, and the youngest runners have their own one-kilometre Kids Run. The event therefore caters to seasoned racers, beginners and families alike. Golazo Sports runs the organisation. The setting of the historic town centre, with the collegiate church of Saint Gertrude on the square, gives the race a distinctly urban character.
