About the race

Last Runners Standing in Langenboom is an elimination race with one simple rule: the fastest does not win, the one who keeps turning up does. Every half hour a new lap of 4 or 5 kilometres sets off, from nine in the morning until two in the afternoon at the latest. The faster you run a lap, the more rest you have left; take longer than thirty minutes and your race is over. Anyone who lasts to the end covers 40 or 50 kilometres. The event is run on an unpaved loop in the De Kuilen nature and recreation area, with the Strandbar Goeiendag as its base. The entry fee is symbolic and the set-up deliberately small: simple, easy-going and entirely about persistence.
