The Beermile de Louvain-la-Neuve is a student race over exactly one mile on a loop by the lake: 1.609 kilometres, split into four sections of four hundred metres. Before each section a beer has to be finished, with or without alcohol as you prefer, and anyone who fails to empty their glass picks up ten seconds of penalty time. Runners start in waves of fifteen, a new wave every five minutes, and you pick your wave when you enter. There are two classifications: fastest within your own wave and best time across all waves, alongside a contest between regions, kaps and student societies. A bar and a DJ await at the finish; the minimum age is eighteen.
